About GoViralCheck

How the tool works, how scores are calculated, and answers to the most common questions creators ask us.

What Is GoViralCheck?

GoViralCheck is a free, instant viral potential calculator for content creators. You answer 6 quick questions about your post, and we give you a score from 0–100 reflecting how well-positioned that content is to reach beyond your existing audience — plus specific, actionable suggestions for improvement.

There's no account required, no paywall, and no subscription. The tool is built to be fast, honest, and useful. Our business model is advertising and affiliate partnerships — not your data or your attention.

How the Score Is Calculated

Each question maps to a known factor in platform algorithm performance. Factors are assigned weights based on published platform documentation, creator community research, and A/B testing patterns documented across the creator economy. Each answer maps to a score of 0–100, and the final score is the weighted average across all factors.

Weights are platform-specific — a factor that's critical on TikTok (trending audio) may be irrelevant on LinkedIn. Here's an example of how factors are weighted on TikTok:

FactorWeightWhy it matters
Hook strength (first 2 seconds)24%Highest predictor of completion rate
Trending audio22%Algorithm distributes trending sounds to the FYP
Video length18%Shorter videos = higher completion rate
Posting time14%Affects quality of initial test pool
Caption CTA12%Comment generation boosts algorithmic spread
Hashtag strategy10%Categorization signal for FYP targeting

Every platform has its own distinct weighting model. The tool recalculates completely when you switch platforms.

What Do the Score Ranges Mean?

75–100

High viral potential. Your setup is strong across most key factors. Post it — and engage actively in the first hour.

45–74

Solid, with room to grow. You're leaving reach on the table. Implement the top 1–2 suggestions before publishing.

0–44

Low potential as-is. Several key factors are working against you. Address the suggestions before posting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this tool really free?

Yes, completely free. No account, no paywall, no trial period. We make money through tasteful advertising and affiliate partnerships with tools we genuinely recommend. The tool itself will always be free.

How accurate is the score?

The score reflects pre-publication setup quality — not a guarantee of performance. Social media virality involves significant randomness: timing, cultural moments, competition on any given day, and the unpredictable nature of human attention. A score of 90 doesn't guarantee virality; a score of 40 doesn't doom a post. The score and suggestions are a preparation tool, not a prediction engine.

Do you store my data or answers?

No. Your answers are processed entirely in your browser and are never sent to a server. We store only two things in your browser's LocalStorage: your usage count (to know when to show the email opt-in) and whether you've subscribed or skipped the opt-in. No content, no answers, no identifiable data is collected unless you voluntarily provide your email address.

Why does the email prompt appear?

After your second use of the tool, we show a one-time prompt offering a free Viral Cheat Sheet — a short email with platform-specific tips. You can skip it at any time and it will never reappear. It's the only ask we make.

Why are the questions different for each platform?

Because the algorithms are fundamentally different. Trending audio is critical on TikTok and irrelevant on LinkedIn. Thumbnail quality is the biggest lever on YouTube and doesn't apply to X. We built platform-specific question sets so the score is always relevant to what you're actually posting, not a generic one-size-fits-all assessment.

Are the recommended tools affiliated?

Yes — the tool cards (Canva, Later, TubeBuddy) use affiliate links. If you click through and subscribe, we may earn a commission at no cost to you. We only recommend tools that creators in our network actively use and find valuable. These affiliate earnings, alongside advertising, are what keep the tool free for everyone.

How often are the scoring weights updated?

We review and update scoring weights when platforms make significant algorithm changes or when substantial new creator data suggests a factor's importance has shifted. Platforms change their algorithms frequently — we aim to keep pace with the most material changes.

Can I use this tool on mobile?

Yes. GoViralCheck is mobile-first — every interaction (platform selection, dropdowns, toggles, results) is optimized for touch and small screens. We recommend checking your score on your phone right before you post.
